General Information
Background
Redeemer International School Thailand was founded in 1996 as the Intensive English Program, a feeder component of Ruamrudee International School at Minburi (RIS). In 2001, the program became known as the Intensive Learning School (ILS), a section of RIS. In 2003, the ILS was awarded a separate school license from the Thai Ministry of Education and is now Redeemer International School Thailand (RIST). The school has the capacity to accommodate grades 4 through 12. Children study an American/International curriculum designed to assist second language learners to acquire English while they continue studying a full school program, an approach known as CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning).
Philosophy
Redeemer International School Thailand is dedicated to providing all children equal access to learning in a multicultural environment. Teaching and learning in RIST is differentiated according to the varied cultural backgrounds and educational needs of students. Children acquire English through studying subject matter in English.
Mission
The RIST mission is to create a safe and nurturing environment for teaching and learning; where professionals are committed to working with parents and the community to provide quality curriculum and relevant learning experiences, and where students realize their highest potential, becoming ethical and principled individuals who are productive members of society. The school is owned and administered by the Redemptorist Fathers of Thailand.
Curriculum
RIST offers all students an innovative educational program that is differentiated according to their cultural backgrounds, educational needs, and English language development. Children study the four core subjects - English, Social Studies, Math, and Science - and special subjects including Thai language, Thai Studies, Japanese Language, Technology, Business Studies, Music, Visual and Performing Arts, and Physical Education (PE). The average class size is 12 students.
Accreditation
RIST is fully accredited by the California-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Thai Office of National Education Standards and Quality Assurance (ONESQA). The school is licensed by the Ministry of Education.
Affiliation
RIST is registered in the US with the College Board and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and is a member of the East Asia Regional Association of Overseas Schools (EARCOS), and the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT).
Graduation
To graduate from RIST, students need 28 credits and a score of 500 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). RIST graduates enroll in prestigious universities in Thailand, Japan, the USA, Australia, and the UK.
Relationship of RIST to RIS
RIST benefits from its association with RIS, one of the most famous international schools in Thailand with a 50-year distinguished heritage. RIS and RIST are sister schools, sharing facilities and human resources to enhance teaching and learning and effective organization. If they wish, RIST students can transfer to RIS when their English improves, or graduate from RIST.
Student Profile
RIST students come from Thai business, government and diplomatic families, or the expatriate communities of Japan, Korea and Taiwan. For all students, English is their second language.
Information for new students seeking admission to RIST
The admissions process is designed to allow the parents of prospective students to learn more about RIST in order to determine whether this is the right school for their child. It is important, therefore, that interested parents receive as much information as possible about the school before they decide. This process also allows the school to interview and test the student to determine whether he/she will be happy and successful at RIST. Before this process families of prospective students are welcome to view the school by appointment and meet the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
Step 1: Meet with RIST Counselor
Step 2: Complete an application form and provide supporting documentation from previous school(s).
Step 3: Sit for the Admissions Test (English and Math Proficiency Test)
Step 4: Applicant interview with Principal
Step 5: Notification of decision/grade placement
